Which change affects your channel?
Existing partners should review the updated modules in YouTube Studio by January 31, 2027. New applicants face higher ads and Premium entry thresholds from February 1. Being in YPP and qualifying for monthly Shorts earnings are separate tests.
Start with the Earn tab in your own Studio account. Record your channel status and qualified metrics there; public view counts alone cannot establish eligibility. Meeting a numerical threshold does not guarantee approval or any payout.
2026 versus February 2027
| Rule | Through January 2027 | From February 2027 |
|---|---|---|
| New ads and Premium entry | 1,000 subscribers plus 4,000 qualified watch hours in 12 months or 10M qualified Shorts views in 90 days. | 1,000 subscribers plus 8,000 qualified watch hours in 365 days or 20M qualified Shorts views in 90 days. Existing YPP status is unchanged. |
| Early fan funding and Shopping | In eligible countries: 500 subscribers, 3 valid public uploads in 90 days, plus 3,000 qualified watch hours in 12 months or 3M qualified Shorts views in 90 days. | Unchanged. Individual features still have their own requirements. |
| Ongoing Shorts revenue sharing | No separately announced ongoing floor under these new rules yet. | Maintain 10M qualified Shorts views over the trailing 90 days. Falling below does not remove YPP membership or stop eligible long-form earnings. |
| Subscription pools | Do not back-apply the announced February formula to earlier payout records. | Premium pool: 30% of net subscription revenue. Premium Lite: 60%. Allocation depends on member watch time and views; downstream shares are 55% for long-form and 45% for Shorts. |
Country availability, policy compliance, account setup and review still matter. Check the expanded YPP overview rather than treating the early tier as automatic ad monetization.
Shorts: an existing partner versus a new applicant
Synthetic eligibility example: An existing YPP channel with 8M qualified Shorts views over 90 days is below the new 10M earning floor. At 12M, it clears that floor, assuming the other conditions are met. Neither number proves a new applicant meets the 20M Shorts entry route. The comparison describes eligibility, not dollars earned.
YouTube says Shorts revenue sharing resumes automatically once the threshold is crossed again. Other earning features are not a promise of replacement income; use confirmed dashboard figures for budgeting.
Keep shares, pools and your own revenue rate separate
CPM measures advertiser spending per ad impression before revenue share. RPM uses creator revenue after sharing and can include Premium, memberships and Supers. That broader RPM is not an ad-only rate. Match the numerator, view denominator, format and reporting period.
Synthetic share comparison: A hypothetical $100 eligible long-form net-ad base at 55% leaves $55. A hypothetical $100 Shorts Creator Pool allocation at 45% leaves $45. These are different bases; this does not mean the same views earn either amount.
Synthetic calculator example: If your chosen ad-only, post-share assumption is $2 per 1,000 total views, 50,000 total views produce $100: 50,000 ÷ 1,000 × $2. Do not multiply that $100 by 55% again. The $2 is invented for arithmetic, not a benchmark.
Use the YouTube ad revenue calculator for that visible-input scenario. Keep other confirmed income separate in the monthly revenue mix worksheet. Download the blank revenue tracker to reconcile actual records offline.
A practical review checklist
- Review each updated module offered in Studio and retain your acceptance record.
- Record whether you are already a partner or applying, and which earning feature you are checking.
- Use qualified metrics from the Earn tab, with the correct measurement window.
- Keep long-form, Shorts, subscription and other income records separate before combining net amounts.
- Recheck the linked official pages when your account status changes or before relying on a future rule.
The calculator cannot establish eligibility, accept terms for you, predict rates, or reproduce the platform’s pool allocation. Your worksheet stays on your device; your spreadsheet app controls its own storage and syncing.
